A rough clip from my Oct 16 2011 concert at Santa Cruz International Live Looping Festival. Starting out with a basic sound-check I kept on improvising to make up a 9:00 minutes piece of music. SG12 Stick Guitar with Roland GR55 synth and my home-built “meta instrument” of interactive electronics.

This gig was performed in octophonics. At the soundcheck we were told they actually had set up two circles of eight speakers system. One big circle with the big speakers surrounding the audience and one inner circle… or should I rather call it “inner exploding core”? We decided to use both. I had re-routed my laptop outputs for octaphonic treatments and Erdem used his rack devices through a borrowed stage mixer to address the surround system. On stage we had a stereo mix of all eight surround channels, so the monitoring sound were rather flat.

Nach dem ersten Festival dieser Art 2008 im Loft zu Köln wird dies das zweite größere Livelooping-Festival in Deutschland sein. Zehn Solo-Livelooper bzw. Bands aus dem In- und Ausland präsentieren jeweils eine halbe Stunde lang ihre ganz individuelle Loop-Musik-Variante. Es gibt praktisch keine Umbaupausen – 5 Stunden Livelooping-Musik am Stück!

Dabei werden Ambient-Klänge und Drones zu hören sein, aber auch Gitarrengrooves, abstrakte Klänge aus dem Computer, groovende One-Man-Bands sowie Gesangsloops.

Unexpected – improvisational live album released!

This album is a live recording of a musical duo improvisation session that took place in Rome on June 5 2009. Fabio Anile plays the Piano and the Synthesizer and Per Boysen plays the Alto Flute and the EWI (Electric Wind Instrument). Both musicians simultaneously play also interactive electronics, particularly utilizing the technique known as Live Looping.

Exceptions are two tracks that were recorded later as a studio based long distance collaboration: Counterpoint (4) where Per plays the Chapman Stick and Bird’s View (7) where Per plays the Electric Guitar while Fabio doubles on Shakers, the Cajun and the Thelevi.

Unexpected is digitally distributed all over the Internet, but I would advice anyone to check it out at Bandcamp because that’s the only digi music web shop I know of that allows specific artwork for each song of the albums.

Looproom.com reworked – and a free lunch launch

This page has now been expanded with a music section driven by the Bandcamp.com engine. This makes the site much deeper but yet simpler with only four main pages on the top header navigation bar. Minimal. Clicking the Music header calls in the Bandcamp engine that supports streamed listening as well as download and shopping.

Among other things, under the Music header, the recent album release Sub City 2064 is also offered in the physical CD format. That feels a bit odd and I need to get used to it ;-) Some people still like CDs and buy them even though a 24 bit FLAC download may sound better than the 16 bit CD audio.

When reworking the site I got the sudden idea today that I shall put out an album with free music. Free as in price tag zero. And since I think giving is a very important human activity I carefully picked out a recording of mine that I like a lot myself and imagine that some other folks may enjoy as well. Now I can hear you snorting “Wot – crazy sunnuvabäscher makes a one track album!!!!” Yep, it is free so I have no other obligations than sharing the very best. No “product”, no “quantity” – only artistic matters in the pot. Can it get any better! Well, maybe with some more songs on board. But don’t worry, it is an infinite album wich means its content will continue to grow over time. Fact is it will stay for ever in Glorious Release Party On Mode. Digital online music is by nature in a continuous state of release, because on the Internet there is no stock that will sell out at some moment later in time.

Disclaimer:
Since I wrote this post Bandcamp has decided to restrict the number of free giveaways to 500. That’s kind of crippling for this “Infinite Glorious Release Party On Mode” album concept. Oh well… maybe things will change again in the future. I do espect Nathan’s and his crew’s decision to keep 15 percent to cover their costs for providing the logistic backbone. And they were definitely not prepared for the surprise that so many Bandcamp users would just give away music for free – no 15 % there, you know ;-)
